Marushin MP40 (ABS) Strip down and Cleaning
When I bought my first model gun I had no idea how to strip it down for cleaning and inspection. On-line help from forum members here got me sorted so I thought it might be a good idea to post up a Step by Step guide for Beginners.
I would welcome your thoughts please chaps. Most of the regular contributors here are far more knowledgable than I am. This Section is intended for Beginners and covers the basics. If you think I'm wasting space, please let me know ok?
As a sample then, I'll start with the Marushin MP40...
Step 1.
Remove the Magazine... Ensure the Bolt is all the way forward...
Unscrew the Barrel Nut, pull off the Barrel assembly taking care not to drop the Sling Loop and Washer.
Step 2.
Cleaning the Detonator Pin and Chamber is vital to keeping your MP40 firing properly so:-
Using long nosed pliers grasp the Detonator Pin and pull it out of the Chamber
Step 3.
There's a slot cut into the Barrel tube...
Grip the Detonator Chamber with your long nosed pliers through this slot and pull the Chamber from the Barrel.
This can be stubborn but grip it firmly and ease it out...
Step 4.
Next step is to seperate the Upper and Lower Receivers to get access to the Bolt assembly and Recoil Spring.
Pull the Locking Ring downwards away from the receiver and twist it half a turn to lock it in the release position.
The Spring here can be tight and awkward to pull against. If needed, remove the 2 slot head screws securing the side plates to the gun and pull them off. The Locking Ring is now fully exposed and can be turned easily.
Step 5.
Grasp the Upper Receiver around the Magazine Well with one hand, then grasp the Pistol Grip with the other.
Squeeze the Trigger and keep it down while you twist the Upper Receiver clockwise.
Twist it round until the rear sight touches the Lower Receiver side.
Step 6.
Pull the Upper Receiver away from the Lower Receiver.
Step 7.
The Bolt and Recoil Tube are a slide fit inside the Upper Receiver so to remove it just grip the Cocking Handle and pull it back and out along the slot
A strip down this far will enable you to clean and re lubricate your MP40 ready for re assembly.
Next Chapters will cover cleaning, inspection and re-assembly...

Thanks Mark, I really appreciate your encouragement.
I will do as much as I can and hopefully when other members have some time they might write up similar guides on their models too?
Cerwyn
I'll re-take some of the photos on the MP40 guide, I'm afraid I got so excited that Carol agreed to do it with me I couldn't focus properly

Bravo, Cerwyn!
This is a perfect example of why I joined this forum. Thank you.
Now let's see, perhaps we need a new designation... Modelgun Professor... Doctor of Modelguns...Hmm
Seriously, it would be well deserved.
Again, thanks! _________________ Rick |

Hiya Rick,
Thank you for your encouragement!
I'm really pleased to learn that you think this type of section will be helpful to you.
Is there anything in particular you would like to see on here?
I would like to know what you want so I know which areas to concentrate on if I can.
I aim to photograph step by step guides on stripping and maintaining as many of my own model guns as possible. I will stress though, that I don't know enough about all of them to give definative answers but hopefully it'll encourage the more knoweldgable guys here to chip in with their know how.
Thanks again Rick,

Cerwyn,
This topic was a bull's-eye for me, because I happen to own an MP40 (actually my first modelgun )
I'm currently building a Marushin M16/XM177 & any additional thoughts are always appreciated.
If it is consistent with this topic, any tuning tips would be great. I'm especially interested in the Sten MkIII, Ingram M11, S&W M76, M3A1 Grease Gun, Beretta M12S, & Thompson - all MGC, the Hudson M3A1, & of course the Marushin M16 & MP40... my humble collection _________________ Rick |

Hiya,
I'm sure we can sort out something here!
I too own a Marushin M16 and an XM177. I can certainly try doing a Step by Step field strip. There is a good deal of information on Tuning this model on the forum. Try entering M16 and/or XM177 into the "Search" facility and plough through the wealth of stuff you'll find.
A lot of the lads know much more about this model than I do but I'll certainly do what I can.
Did you find the Beginner's Guide to Loading Marushin M16/XM177 cartridges helpful?
I can also attempt something on MGC's MAC11, MGC's Thompson and Hudsons M3A1 but it'll take awhile
I certainly hope to see lots of Tuning Tips appearing as I could do with learning a few myself!

Hi Rick
I have been taking more photos of the MP40 Strip Down as well as writing up a Re-assembly guide, Cleaning and Lubrication Guide and I'm attempting a Trouble shooting guide for the MP40 too.
Hopefully there'll be a comprehensive guide for this gun ready soon.
I hope it'll be of use
You don't have to memorize all the loading instructions, they'll remain on here won't they for future reference

Cerwyn,
How is Carol loading your mp40's magazines? By hand (no loader) or, with a magazine loader? I know that loading the mp40 magazines can be a pain to load especially the last few rounds! I have started to look for an original or a replica mp40 magazine loader to load these magazines. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

Hi Mark,
The Marushin MP40 magazines I have can be loaded with 30 rds by hand without too much effort.
The springs must be in good condition because the gun will fire a mag' full in one burst, no problem.
I recently bought some extra magazines that probably need taking apart and cleaning and lubricating because they are rather more difficult to load more than about 25 each but they don't feed well either.
The only time we've had to resort to a loading tool is with my MGCUK Steel Sten. This uses real steel mags and the springs are really strong! Carol couldn't manage more than 6 or 7 rds without the loading tool.

| Hi Cerwyn. As I remember the magazine well of the MGC '68 was removable. Can this be done with the Marushin or is it a cast piece? |

Hello Lampwick
The magazine well on the abs Marushin MP40 forms part of the Receiver moulding so isn't removable.
I don't know if Marushin's metal version differs though
